Privacy policy
Who we are. JAECOO Owners UK (jaecooowners.co.uk) is an independent website. The operator is the data controller for this site. To contact us about privacy, use the privacy request form.
Vehicle registrations. If you use the MOT history check, the registration you enter is sent to the DVSA MOT History API to fetch the result. We do not store it, and we do not write it to our application logs. Our hosting provider (IONOS) may keep short-lived server logs (IP address, time, URL path) for security. To limit misuse, the lookup counts requests per visitor using a one-way hash of the IP address, kept for up to an hour.
Analytics. If enabled, we use Plausible Analytics, which does not use cookies or collect personal data. We do not use advertising trackers.
Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email address and the time and wording of your consent on our web server (hosted by IONOS in the EU/UK), and may pass them to a mailing-list provider to send the newsletter. You can unsubscribe from any email, or ask us to delete your address using the privacy request form.
Messages. If you use the contact form, we keep your message (and your name and email if you give them) on our web server only to reply and to fix any error you report, and delete it within 12 months. To limit spam, the form counts submissions per visitor using a one-way hash of the IP address.
Community accounts. If you join the club we store your email address (used only to sign you in, confirm your address, reset your password and, if you opt in, tell you about replies), a password hash (never the password), your display name, anything you choose to add to your profile or My Garage (vehicle model, trim, colour, year, nickname, photo — never a registration number or VIN), your posts, photos, reactions, follows and notification settings, and the time you last signed in. Your email is never shown to other members. We keep this while your account exists; you can download everything we hold from Settings and delete your account there at any time. Deleting your account removes your profile, car, photos and notifications immediately; posts stay on the site attributed to “Former member” so other owners' conversations still make sense, and you can ask us to remove specific posts too.
Community moderation. Reports, moderation actions and a one-way hash of the IP address used to sign up and post are kept to prevent abuse and spam. Moderators can see members' email addresses for this purpose only.
Emails from the community. We send transactional emails (confirm address, password reset, moderation notices). Reply alerts and the community digest are optional and controlled in Settings. Joining the club never adds you to the site newsletter.
Cookies for members. Signing in sets a session cookie and, if you tick “keep me signed in”, a remember-me cookie for 60 days. Both are strictly necessary for the service you asked for, so no consent banner is shown. See the cookie policy.
Your rights. Under UK GDPR you can ask for access to, correction or deletion of personal data we hold, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
