BSD uses rear radar to watch for moving vehicles in the areas behind and to each side of your car, helping you change lanes safely. The same sensors also provide Lane Change Assist (LCA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Braking.

When it works
- BSD becomes active once you reach 9 mph (15 km/h).
- If you slow from above 9 mph (15 km/h) to 6 mph (10 km/h), it goes back to standby.
BSD is on by default each time you switch the car on (ON mode).Petrol only
BSD is on by default each time the car is in READY.Super Hybrid (SHS-P) only
You can turn it off in the Driver Assistance settings on the central touchscreen.
What you see and hear
- Level 1 - a vehicle enters the detection area: the yellow light in that side's door mirror stays on, and a green indicator shows on the cluster.
- Level 2 - you switch on the indicator towards that side: the mirror light flashes, a yellow indicator flashes on the cluster and a warning tone sounds.
Level 1 alert (steady)
Level 2 alert (flashing)

Caution:BSD may react to stationary objects at or near the roadside, such as guardrails, tunnels, walls and parked vehicles.
Caution:Turn BSD off when towing or when something is fitted to the back of the car (such as a bike rack). It can disturb the radar and make the system behave abnormally.
Caution:BSD may not work if lots of snow or ice builds up on the rear bumper near the radar, or after long drives on snowy roads.
Warning:BSD only helps you. It may not work properly in every driving, weather, traffic or road condition - always check your mirrors and look over your shoulder.
