Hill Descent Control (HDC)

Controlled speed down steep slopes
Official manufacturer dataApplies to: Petrol and Super Hybrid (SHS-P)Source: Petrol handbook p171-172 · Super Hybrid handbook p156-157

HDC helps you go down steep slopes safely by holding the car at a controlled speed of 10–35 km/h (about 6–21 mph; the manual misprints the lower limit as 10 mph). If you start below the minimum speed, HDC holds the minimum. You can raise or lower the controlled speed within this range with the accelerator or brake pedal.

Turning HDC on and off

  1. 1With the car in ON, swipe down from the top-right edge of the central screen to open the shortcut menu.
  2. 2At 37 mph (60 km/h) or less, tap HDC to switch it on. The green HDC indicator on the cluster stays on.
  3. 3Tap HDC again to switch it off – the green indicator goes out.

HDC also switches off automatically above 37 mph (60 km/h).

Things to know

  • HDC can only be switched on below 37 mph (60 km/h).
  • If a wheel locks while HDC is working, ABS steps in automatically.
  • If a wheel loses contact with the ground, braking force is moved to the wheels with more grip.
  • HDC brakes through the stability control (ESP) system, so you'll hear hydraulic noises – this is normal. If ESP has a fault, HDC can't be switched on; have it checked by an authorised Jaecoo service centre.

Caution:Switch HDC on before you reach the steep section, so you can concentrate on steering.

Caution:Be ready to take over at any time. HDC can drop out on its own (for example if it overheats or ESP fails), and you must then control your speed yourself straight away.
