Check the oil with the dipstick when the engine is off and has had time to settle.
Checking the oil level
- 1Warm up the engine, then park on level ground and switch off.
- 2Wait about 5 minutes for the oil to drain back down.
- 3Open the bonnet. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth.
- 4Push the dipstick slowly and fully back in.
- 5Wait about 3 seconds, then pull it out again.
- 6Check the oil mark is between the low and high marks (the Normal range).

Note:Hold a cloth under the dipstick so oil does not drip onto the engine or bodywork. Do not check straight after the engine warms up. Wait for the oil to return to the bottom of the engine.
Adding oil
- 1Turn the oil filler cap anticlockwise to remove it.
- 2Using a funnel, add a small amount of oil at a time.
- 3Recheck the level with the dipstick after each top-up.
- 4When the level is in the correct range, refit the filler cap and turn it clockwise to tighten.

Caution:Do not overfill. Too much oil can damage the engine.
Caution:Use only the recommended engine oil. Any damage from other oils is at your own cost.
Caution:If you spill oil on the engine, clean it up before tightening the filler cap.
Caution:Do not turn the removed filler cap upside down. Oil can run onto the seal and later look like a leak from the cap.
Note:Never put used oil or oil filters in household waste, down the drain or on the ground. Dispose of them in line with local rules.
